Principle:
The level of the liquid is measured by a radar signal, which is transmitted from the antenna at the top of the tank toward the liquid.  After the radar signal is reflected by the liquid surface the antenna picks it up again.  The distance from the gauge to the liquid is proportional to the time of flight of the microwave signal.
